Tuition
As a personal tutor, I work with people on a one to one basis. This includes teaching and supporting ESOL, SATs, GCSEs, BTEC National Diplomas and all vocational areas of study. I teach adults with any literacy needs, CVs, forms, etc. and work with children and adults with Dyslexia and other learning difficulties and disabilities.
I provide a free initial assessment to explore and identify individuals learning styles. This gives me an insight into the qualities and barriers, challenges and needs of the person and how I will work to ensure tailor made tuition to suit the individual, ensuring engagement and progression that is relevant, interesting, empowering, and holistic. This initial session also provides the opportunity for questions, discussion of needs, concerns, ideas and thoughts, laying down a foundation of clarity and comfortableness.
My fees are fair and negotiable I offer termly reduced rates. Please feel free to phone or email to discuss further. I use interesting stimulating resources to making sessions enjoyable.
I have a passionate interest in ensuring everyone has the opportunity to reach their full potential, especially those whom in youth have been unhappy and underachieving in schools, having a strong belief that provision needs to be relevant to the individual, their life style and interests. You cannot get the best from anyone if you do not enter their world, draw on their strengths, whilst supporting weaker areas, by using teaching methods that inspire. I encourage self awareness. I endeavour to enable and empower students to realise their own power, therefore often changing old patterns of low confidence and self esteem that are at the root of low achievement and feeling stuck. My work is rewarding and stimulating. I believe that only when old negative patterns have been acknowledged and healed can true learning that is enjoyable take place. Encouragement, praise, empathy, kindness and inspiration will build confidence and begin again the journey of learning imaginatively with humour, joy and enthusiasm.
I have worked with Dyslexic students of all ages using art to teach English. I guide individuals to learn by experimenting. I repeatedly find myself working with people who feel they have been failed by the education system for a variety of reasons. I worked closely in colleges and schools with students who had Dyslexia. There were often complaints that they felt stereotyped. I strongly believe that every individual is unique and I see my work as seeking out that uniqueness and drawing on strengths to teach, inspire, build confidence and enable learning. So much of education in schools and colleges is skills and funding led. This can contribute to resulting in many people slipping through the net who either give up or become disruptive. I feel very privileged to have such rewards as being part of ending negative cycles and instead, inspiring new ways of thinking and progressing.

"A well trained labour force is not drilling and training. It should be where people have been encouraged to know themselves, think for themselves, use their imagination and be able to discern. This is the result of Education .As valuable as training may be, it is NOT education."
Stephen Prickett
I have been asked to give talks and do presentations to demonstrate how to best enable individuals and groups of all ages, cultures and abilities, to reach their full potential and therefore feel actively part of their community. Whilst working in Further Education I created a document as a model, on The Advantages and Disadvantages of the Government’s Alternative 14 to 19 Provision for Students who are part of the Disaffected Non–Attending Group.
